Because it's an estimate.
You know when you’re at the store, and you buy something by the pound, and they have to measure exactly how much it weighs? Turns out apples, oranges, and even potatoes (yes even potatoes), don’t always weigh exactly what we think they will. So, we wait until the producer has the time to confirm all this before we charge you.
Product availability can also change from the time you place your order to the time the producer can fill your order. Because of this, we don’t charge your account until your items are packed and your order total is confirmed.
That way, we don’t have to do that thing where we charge you, then give you a refund if an item is no longer available. We think having a bunch of line items on a card statement is annoying so let’s just not do that.
